Decision Making Building Block - Love.
Many couples who had no difficulty communicating
before marriage, find communication coming to a standstill after marriage.
The basic reason for this change is that, before marriage, few decisions
had to be made. After marriage, however, they must make decisions that
will affect both partners. Because they cannot agree on the decision,
communication grinds to a halt and a wall of separation begins to grow
between them.
Sociologist and family counselors admit that one of
the greatest problems in marriage is decision-making, Visions of democracy
dance in the minds of many young couples, but when there are only two
voting members, democracy often results in deadlock. What then are we to
do?
Let me suggest that the most fundamental building
block in decision making is love! Love, the attitude which thinks
"What is best for my spouse?" By nature, we are self-centered.
Love makes the well-being of my spouse, my major concern. Love will lead
us to unity in decision making.
