Anger
Is The Result Of An Event.
Although we normally think of anger as an emotion,
it is in reality more than an emotion. Anger involves the emotions, the
body, the mind, and the will, all of which are stimulated by some event in
the individual's life.
Anger is always stimulated by an event. We don't sit
down and say, "I think I will now experience anger." No,
something happens: He comes home late; she fails to record a check; he
fails to take out the garbage. Thousands of events have the potential for
stimulating anger. Once the event happens, the emotions respond, the mind
engages, and actions take place.
Why? Because we have encountered what we believe to
be unfair. All people have some sense of fairness or rightness. When they
encounter what they consider to be wrong they experience anger. Anger is
an indication that we are moral creatures. God made us and we reflect His
concern for righteousness. Anger is a friend, not an enemy. Understanding
this will help us process anger in our marriages.
