Anger: Friend Not
Foe.
This week, I have been trying to drive home the
reality that anger is not our enemy, but our friend. The psalmist says,
"God is angry with the wicked every day" (Psalm 7:11 KJV). God
experiences anger because He is Holy and loving. Evil deeds stimulate His
anger and His anger moves him to take constructive action.
We feel angry because we too are concerned about
right and wrong. Yes, we are fallen creatures, but God's image in us is
not destroyed. The worst of us still have some concern for rightness. Find
the most pagan man and listen to his statements: '"That's not right.
She treated him wrongly." Steal his car and see if he expresses
anger.
We should thank God for our capacity to experience
anger. When one ceases to experience anger, one has lost his sense of
moral concern. Without moral concern, the world would be a dreadful place
indeed. Thank God for anger and then learn how to process it in a Godly
way.
